The concept of »cross-cultural dynamics« is used in this volume to outline increasing mobility and reciprocal cultural interpenetration. The contributions consider artifacts, social practices, and phenomena of high as well as popular culture from the perspective of different disciplines (including American Studies, Chinese studies, sports, sociology, ethnology, history, media, theater, and literature). They investigate which regularities underlie »transcultural dynamics«, what roles different actors assume, and to what extent theories and methods of a transdisciplinary transculturality can be developed.
