Summary
This volume sheds light on recent power shifts in the Indo-Pacific, focusing on position adjustments of the states of East and Southeast Asia. Beyond the visible processes, the contributions examine the narratives through which the Indo-Pacific is constantly being reconstructed. The volume addresses the island disputes in the South China Sea by the example of the Philippines and Vietnam, and it shows – illustrated by the tensions between South Korea and Japan – how historical conflicts overshadow the alliances of the present. Finally, the volume examines the extent to which antagonisms or new forms of cooperation are emerging in the area of cyberspace.
