Summary
The question of values and norms are declared morally binding, and whether or not they can claim universal validity is disputed. For example, it is by no means clear what our obligations are with respect to our families, or which responsibilities derive from our collective histories. Can we then simply act at our own discretion? Are generally accepted values and norms being taken over by universal pluralism and the range of courses of action possible in modern societies? What can we use to orient ourselves? The contributions from Konrad Paul Liessmann, Barbara Bleisch, Clemens Sedmak, and Susan Neiman provide profound insights into the tension between pluralism of values and moral responsibility.
