The publication of the panel “Cold War Music Historiography: Focus on the GDR”, which took place at the annual conference of the Gesellschaft für Musikforschung at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, deals with historiographical questions concerning the musical culture of the GDR. Among other things, the authors examine the influence of the Cold War, the problems of the source situation, performance and new music, as well as Marxist music historiography.The anthology is based on the multimedia research and publication project “Music History Online – GDR”, initiated by Matthias Tischer, Nina Noeske and Lars Klingberg.
