Summary

This comparative study of regional history examines the relevance of charitable care for inter-zonal traffic in the social and German political context from 1945 to 1990, focusing on all "Bahnhofsmissionen" in Schleswig-Holstein, Lower Saxony, Hesse and Bavaria, but especially on the seven closest to the border. They offered humanitarian and pastoral first aid, were supported by Bonn policy and were integrated into a pan-German strategic process to maintain the perspective of reunification as part of a positive externalisation of the social policy catalogue of measures. Jann-Thorge Thöming is a social consultant and researcher in the field of modern history.
