Summary

The means of data and information control for users of digital media is constantly diminishing. Hackers, IT companies, secret services, data brokers, developers of new technologies, etc., as well as the growing internet of things, big data and non-transparent algorithms speed up the loss of control. Information contexts that used to be separated from each other – intimate, private, public, institutional information – are gradually merging. This is where Thilo Hagendorff starts: He introduces innovative strategies of the use of media that anticipate the loss of control or even fully count on it – and that do not count on vulnerable norms of privacy or unreliable data protection technologies.
