This book offers the first comprehensive introduction to Ukrainian studies in German. It deals with Ukraine’s past and present from a comparative perspective, introducing the most important problems of Ukraine’s history and politics as well as its literature, media, languages and denominational issues in a clear and comprehensible manner. The book is a synthesis of international research, but also the result of the author's own research and teaching experience throughout Europe. It is aimed at students and teachers of Ukrainian and Eastern European studies and Slavic studies as well as journalists, politicians and all others interested in Eastern Europe.
