"Jean Pauls Revolutionsdichtung" was first published in 1974 in East and West Germany. The book is Harich's attempt to clarify the connections between philosophy, literature and culture in Germany in the decade of the French Revolution. The spectrum of authors and theorists discussed ranges from Goethe and Schiller to Kant, from Herder to Jacobi. Using the three great novels by Jean Paul, Harich attempts to reconstruct this time with its conflicts, fears and hopes. In the 1980s, he tried to submit a second edition of his work in the GDR several times. However, his wish was not granted. In the second subvolume of this edition, further minor manuscripts about Jean Paul are published.
