Germany's theater landscape is unparalleled, yet its city and state theaters frequently lack the money to finance the rising costs of staff-intensive devices. Less conventional groups scramble arduously from project to project. Most dance and theater professionals find themselves permanently fixed in a precarious social position. Which reforms are overdue, which forms of production does theater require, and which realignments are necessary to turn this hardship around?
