Summary

For Israel, Iranian-backed militias have been a growing threat for decades. In Iran’s deterrence and defence logic, however, this build-up of military capabilities remains indispensable. Syria in particular has been the focus of intensified efforts since 2011. Tehran is continuing this policy despite high-profile attacks by Jerusalem. This monograph examines the implications of this for Israel from the perspective of neorealism. It focuses on the overall security strategy and foreign policy relations of the Jewish state as well as the development of the Israeli armed forces’ capabilities and their operations. The author also addresses the current situation following the attack on Israel by the Islamic Resistance Movement (HAMAS).
