Summary
The present volume contains fifteen contributions from three meetings organised on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of Antoine Reicha (1770–1836) in France and in the Czech Republic. It provides an overview of the most advanced research concerning the composer's musical and theoretical work, his thinking and his reception, and outlines a new approach to the music of the early 19th century. There is still a great lack of general understanding of this period, and yet it is the one in which many great composers received their training, such as Hector Berlioz, Franz Liszt and César Franck, all of whom were Reicha's pupils, among many others.
