Summary

This book provides a comprehensive and scholarly introduction to one of the most influential works of Islamic Qurʾanic exegesis, al-Kashshāf by al-Zamakhsharī. It situates the author within his biographical and intellectual context and explores the theological foundations of his thought, the range of his methodological approaches, and the distinctive characteristics of his exegetical reasoning. Through a close analysis of the structure, sources, and interpretive strategies of al-Kashshāf, the study demonstrates how al-Zamakhsharī moves beyond a purely literal reading, draws on intertextual references, and integrates theological reflection into his interpretation. The book shows why al-Zamakhsharī’s philological and rational approach continues to be of significance for contemporary Qurʾanic studies.
