With the spread of digital technologies, users can increasingly determine where digital objects are deployed, and what for: use becomes design. Designers should not react to this directly by making technical devices »intuitively« usable, but rather the opposite: the more daring the design, the more creatively it can be repurposed in use. With the example of electronic textiles, Katharina Bredies explores the repurposing potential of unusual objects. She shows that professional drafts and creative use are turning into two stages of the same activity. This understanding of use and design demands new concepts and methods for professional designers.
