Summary

The study raises awareness of problematic representations in reporting on Israel and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Drawing on a qualitative content analysis of German print and online media (2023), it identifies and critically analyses distortions as well as antisemitic stereotypes and tropes. It also examines statements that lend themselves to antisemitic or racist imagery. Findings include a focus on violence and escalation, the use of Nazi analogies, a tendency to portray Israel as the sole aggressor, the relativization of terrorism, and a frequent lack of contextualization. This can reinforce one-sided images of Israel and encourage antisemitic readings.
