Summary

This textbook offers a basic introduction to comparative democracy research with a focus on democratisation and the crisis of democracy. Firstly, key empirical findings are presented; secondly, an overview of common typologies is given; and thirdly, theoretical explanatory approaches are summarised. Further reading tips, an index for quick orientation and knowledge boxes prepare the content in an understandable way. With a comprehensive chapter on ways to strengthen democracy, the book also aims to contribute to the debate on the sustainability of this form of state order. The book is aimed at students of political and social science as well as all others interested in gaining an overview of current discussions in the research field of democracy.
