Summary
The role of the African American in American history has been documented but sometimes ignored by historians. This work is intended to assist researchers in locating the wealth of material that has been published. African-Americans in Defense of the Nation builds on a long list of early bibliographies concerning the subject. This work brings together a broad spectrum of titles related to the African-American participation in America's wars. It covers both the military exploits-as African Americans have been involved in every American conflict since the Revolution-and their participation in the homefront support in building the weapons that the armed forces used.
Organized both chronologically and topically, chapters cover the various conflicts-from the Revolutionary War to the Post World War II era-and branches of the military, as well as the role of African American women in the United States military.
