Summary
Talk about sports politics is often bold. It is dominated by the dictates of subjective opinion over objectively considered judgment. This is where this book comes in. To help the power prevail, it offers a toolbox of diagnostic instruments. As a test of their viability,a panorama of conflicts in sports policy is painted. The case studies are both a warning against the destructive effects of political instrumentalization and an encouragement of sports politics that places sport at the service of a humane global society. They show how meaningless the phrases “sport is political” and “sport is apolitical” are if they are played off against each other. Well-founded sports policy enables meaningful sport by fending off general political encroachments.
