Summary

What was the political role Thomas Mann played in the last years of his life, which coincided with the highly explosive period of the Cold War? An international and interdisciplinary research group has set itself the task of shedding light on this question. The results are presented in this volume of studies, which aims to provide a dual perspective and encourage academic innovation. It looks on the panorama of activities that emanated from the writer himself as most attentive observer of world events as well as on the spectrum of politically relevant actions that were linked to his controversial persona from outside in East and West.
