Summary

Russland und die Europäische Union sind Nachbarn in Europa. Sie sind historisch, ökonomisch, kulturell eng miteinander verbunden und tun sich dennoch schwer, eine gemeinsame Sprache zu finden. Das Misstrauen aus den Jahren der „Ost-West-Konfrontation“ ist letztlich nicht überwunden. Über Jahre herausgeformte Wahrnehmungsmuster und gewachsene Vorstellungen von der eigenen Identität wirken sich nachhaltig auf die Entwicklung der Beziehungen aus.

Der vorliegende Band will diese Perzeptionsstrukturen entwirren. Er geht den Vorstellungen vom „Selbst“ und vom „Anderen“ nach, wie sie sich in Deutschland und Russland entwickelten, untersucht den Diskurs zwischen den Kulturen, die Entwicklung von Feindbildern, die Unterschiede der Wertesysteme. Neben der Analyse der historischen Überlieferung bieten Medienanalysen in Deutschland und Russland sowie Befragungen deutscher und russischer Eliten Material für die Untersuchung der Muster gegenseitiger Wahrnehmung. Der Band zeigt auch, dass erst vor diesem Hintergrund eine kritische Diskussion der Beziehungen zwischen Russland und der EU fruchtbar wird.
