This introductory book is intended for students of Scandinavian studies who are primarily interested in modern Scandinavian literary studies. It combines a thorough theory-based and problem-oriented overview of the most important methods currently used in literary, media and cultural studies with a variety of examples from Scandinavian literature. Through this exemplary approach, on the one hand the theories and methods are made clear, while on the other important themes and forms of representation in modernday Scandinavian literature are presented. It also becomes apparent that reflective reading of literary texts opens up privileged access to the culture, history and society of Scandinavia.
