Summary

Dieser Band präsentiert Forschungsergebnisse der ERGOMAS (European Research Group on Military and Society) Arbeitsgruppe „Public Opinion, Mass Media and the Military“ zu einem breiten Themenspektrum der zivil-militärischen Beziehungen. Er fragt danach, wie die Öffentlichkeit und die Medien internationale militärische Einsätze unterschiedlichen Charakters sehen. Er behandelt Themen der „Opfertoleranz“ moderner Gesellschaften der Gegenwart, beleuchtet die Selbst- und Fremdwahrnehmung der Streitkräfte und setzt sich mit dem Widerspruch auseinander, dass einerseits ein relativ hohes Niveau gesellschaftlichen Vertrauens in die Streitkräfte besteht, andererseits aber die gleichen Gesellschaften ein relativ hohes Maß an Indifferenz gegenüber den Streitkräften und ihren Belangen aufweisen. Schließlich widmet sich der Band Fragen der Darstellung von Kriegen und Einsätzen in den Medien und Themen der zivilen demokratischen Kontrolle von Streitkräften Das Buch richtet sich an alle, die mit militärischen Dingen im weiten Sinne beschäftigt sind, vornehmlich an Wissenschaftler, Studenten und Praktiker in diesen Bereichen.
