Zusammenfassung

Angesichts der fortgeschrittenen Internationalisierung der Erinnerung an den Nationalsozialismus gewinnt die Frage an Gewicht, wie sich arabische Gesellschaften und Intellektuelle zur Geschichte, Ideologie und genozidalen Praxis des nationalsozialistischen Deutschland sowie zu den transnationalen Wegmarken der Erinnerungskultur positionieren. Dieser Frage wird in der vorliegenden Arbeit anhand von Einzelstudien zum Werk dreier arabischer Intellektueller nachgegangen. Die Analyse wird durch eine ausführliche Kontextualisierung ergänzt, in der unter anderem die Genese und Entwicklung von Gemeinschaftsideologien und Antisemitismus in der arabischen Welt, die arabischen Reaktionen auf den Nationalsozialismus und die Motive wie auch die Protagonisten der jüngeren Auseinandersetzung in den Blick genommen werden. Dabei zeigt sich vor allem die Heterogenität der Debatten wie auch ihre Verflechtung mit westlichen Diskursen. Gleichzeitig offenbart sich jedoch eine weite Verbreitung von Unwissen und revisionistischen Motiven, ein weitgehend antisemitischer und autoritärer Status Quo sowie große Diskrepanzen selbst zum Minimalkonsens des institutionalisierten Gedenkens. All dies lässt die Aussicht auf eine Annäherung und eine konstruktive arabische Partizipation an den Erinnerungsdiskursen in weite Ferne rücken.
