Zusammenfassung
Zwischen Sommer 2015 und Sommer 2016 geriet Europa in schwieriges Fahrwasser: Noch längst nicht genesen von der Finanz- und Wirtschaftskrise, weiterhin mit der Ukraine-Krise und Russland konfrontiert, platzten zwei weitere Krisen: Etwa zwei Millionen Flüchtlinge erreichten Mitteleuropa, wo die Bereitschaft sie aufzunehmen, von Rechtspopulisten politisch ausgebeutet wurde. Terroranschläge in Frankreich und in Belgien schockierten die europäischen Gesellschaften und vergrößerten die Chancen von Demagogen. Als das britische Referendum für den „Brexit“ entschieden wurde und damit erstmals ein Mitgliedstaat die EU verlassen will, war Europa endgültig im Krisenmodus angekommen. Dabei stehen viele andere Herausforderungen auf der globalen Agenda, von den amerikanischen Präsidentschaftswahlen bis zu Chinas Wirtschaft und Politik.
Das CIFE hat, wie in den beiden Jahren zuvor, rund zwanzig Autoren, des eigenen Teams wie Gäste, gebeten, diese Probleme zu analysieren, einzuschätzen und Wege zu ihrer Lösung aufzuzeigen.
