Zusammenfassung

Das Werk untersucht die Rolle der Medien in der Finanzkrise 2007–2010. Die Autorin geht der Frage nach, ob die Medien die komplexen Prozesse und politischen Verantwortlichkeiten in der Finanz-marktregulierung für die Wähler akkurat aufbereiten und so zur Kontrolle der politischen Akteure beitragen. Im Zentrum steht die Rolle der Medien als demokratische Kontrollinstanz von unabhängigen Regulierungsbehörden im Finanzsektor.

Die Arbeit schließt mit der Erkenntnis, dass eine „unabhängige“ Finanzmarktaufsicht, zumindest in Zeiten der Krise, in Frage gestellt werden muss. Wie ein gewählter Politiker ist die Aufsicht Teil des öffentlichen Diskurses. Die Bedingungen für die Aufgabenerfüllung der Aufsicht werden in ein neues Licht gestellt.
