Zusammenfassung
Provinztheater wurden bisher von der Forschung weitgehend ignoriert, obwohl sie im 19. Jahrhundert kulturelle Zentren ganzer Regionen waren: In diesen Theatern konnte sich die Bevölkerung treffen, sozialen Tätigkeiten wie dem Glücksspiel nachgehen und sich über das gesellschaftspolitische Geschehen austauschen. Die vorliegende transdisziplinäre Studie (Kunstwissenschaft, Theaterwissenschaft, Literaturwissenschaft, Musikwissenschaft, Geschichte) nimmt, basierend auf reichhaltigem Archivmaterial, Repertoire, Akteure und Räume solcher Theater in Italien und habsburgischen Territorien in den Blick und ordnet ihre Praktiken wie auch ihre sozio-historische Rolle neu ein.
