Zusammenfassung

In den letzten sieben Jahren stand die Finanz- und Wirtschaftskrise im Zentrum europäischer Politik, aber definitiv gelöst ist sie auch heute noch nicht. Inzwischen ist „-exit“ ein vielfach verwendeter Begriff geworden, sei es in Bezug auf Griechenland oder Großbritannien, und bedroht den Integrationsprozess als Ganzen. An anderen Orten wird der Konsens über die Grundlagen der Demokratie aufgekündigt. Außenpolitische Herausforderungen kommen hinzu: Der Ausbruch des Konflikts mit Russland über die Ukraine war eine böse Überraschung und bedroht den Frieden; die neue Unsicherheit schließt auch die transatlantischen Beziehungen ein. Schließlich muss die EU ihre globale Rolle überdenken, insbesondere im Blick auf den Mittelmeerraum und die Entwicklungspolitik.

Das CIFE hat eine Debatte über diese Themen angeregt, unter den Mitgliedern des eigenen Teams, aber auch mit Kollegen aus anderen europäischen Ländern. Präsentiert werden in diesem Buch die daraus zwischen Mitte 2015 und Mitte 2016 entstandenen Policy Papers.
