The Freiburger Romanistische Arbeiten is the most important series of publications for Romance studies in Freiburg. It publishes projects funded by the Dr Jürgen and Irmgard Ulderup Foundation, including outstanding postgraduate dissertations. These research studies from the fields of linguistics, literary studies and cultural studies fulfil the series’ goal of publishing works based on both intermedia and interdisciplinary research, as well as those that address up-to-date, contemporary issues. Its volumes are mostly published in German, but also in French, Italian, Spanish and English.

The series entitled ‘Nordica’ offers up-to-date literary studies contributions to Scandinavian studies in the form of monographs and anthologies. Since it was founded in the year 2000, the series has established itself above all as a forum for discussion and the application of cultural and media studies approaches to new Scandinavian studies. ‘Nordica’ offers its readers the chance to follow recent developments in interdisciplinary theory and methods with innovative reading matter on literature, film and other media from northern Europe. Interdisciplinary networking, the relevance of literary studies in general for Scandinavian studies and the significance of Scandinavian cultural heritage for interdisciplinary literature studies are important in this respect. Accordingly, the series has already published studies on the definitive authors of Nordic literature such as Strindberg, Ibsen, Hamsun and Inger Christensen, on Scandinavian contemporary and youth literature, which is widely read internationally, and also on the relation between text and pictures, and literature and radio or jazz.

The series, Comparative Politics. Vergleichende Politikwissenschaft, is firmly anchored in the field of comparative political research and presents innovative studies comprising theory-guided empirical research or exploring new theoretical and conceptual ground. The series is not limited to specific theories, methods, or topics. On the theoretical side, we invite books that invoke theories such as rational choice, game theory and institutional theories as well as political attitudes, values, and political culture. Substantively, contributions to the series should belong to the field of comparative politics as it is broadly understood. Comparisons can, for example, involve countries from all regions of the world and subnational units within countries (like the German Länder or Swiss Kantone). Following a classic distinction, these comparisons can extend to polities (e.g., constitutions), politics, and policies from an array of fields such as welfare policy, foreign policy, or judicial policy. Methodologically, we are interested in books doing a rigorous empirical analysis based on the informed application of a wide range of social science methods. Thus, the series invites the submission of books using some form of quantitative analysis, ranging from simple regression to more advanced techniques such as multilevel and structural equation modeling. This will also include qualitative case studies, Qualitative Comparative Analysis (QCA), social network analysis, manual and computer-based content analysis, and any combination of multiple methods in a mixed-method design.

The research series discusses perspectives and challenges of the political in contemporary societies. It presents contributions from the various fields of Political Theory, Political Philosophy, Social Philosophy, Sociology and Cultural Sciences. Without being determined to a certain school of thought, the volumes explore the different paths of anti-essentialist, pluralist and radical democratic attempts of thinking the political which had been established in theoretical debates since the early 1980ies mainly in France, Italy, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The range of topics comprises deconstructive, genealogical and agonistic approaches, discourse and hegemony theories as well as Gouvernementality, Gender and Postcolonial Studies. The research series initiates a constructive dispute on the discourses on the political and is at the same time open for future trends and further developments of these debates.

”Sephardic Societies and Cultures“ is the only academic book series in Germany with an explicit Sephardic focus. It contributes to research on Iberian Jewish communities, its Western and Eastern Sephardic Diasporas, as well as Jewish and non-Jewish perspectives on and interactions with Sephardic Jews from the Middle Ages to the present. The series is aimed at researchers and students of Judaic Studies and Jewish Studies, Jewish, Christian and Islamic Theologies, Israel and Middle Eastern Studies, History, Philosophy, Literature and related subjects. Manuscripts should follow a cultural studies approach, contribute to research into the global history of Sephardic Judaism in all its diversity, reception and interconnectedness, and address current issues and discussions that are also of interdisciplinary interest. The series includes monographs, anthologies, editions as well as outstanding dissertations and post-doctoral theses.

This series addresses social, political and economic issues of South Asia, set in the context of the historical and cultural space, religions and identities of the region, and ensconced in the heritage and memories that underpin them all. The series conflates both theory and area. It welcomes scholarship on a single country or part of a country, comparative studies looking at single problems across the region and research on global issues with significance for South Asia. The series aims at the academia, politics, media and the general public interested in issues of development, security, trade or tourism that bring South Asia – from Afghanistan to the Maldives – to the attention of the world.
