Automated guided vehicles (AGVs) are essential for the automated transportation of goods in industrial applications. However, conventional AGVs are reaching their limits, which is why autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) are being used as a more flexible alternative. Instead of procuring new AMRs, existing AGVs can be retrofitted. A research project on prefabrication and automation in construction demonstrates the conversion of a conventional AGV into an AMR and discusses its extended functionality.
