[Understanding God. Tasks and Limits of Theological Hermeneutics] Theological hermeneutics is more than just a methodology for the different theological disciplines. Its true challenge, not to say its provocation, lies in the assumption that the understanding of faith is not merely a facet of human self-understanding but, in a precise sense, also an understanding of God. The presupposition is the possibility that God can be understood at all by us humans and is not merely a marker for an unspeakable mystery or a placeholder in a theory of metaphysical ultimate foundation. The specific emphasis of this book lies in the bodily and sensory aspects of all understanding. It outlines the basic traits of a theological hermeneutics of the body, which grounds not only in the theology of creation but ultimately in christology, that is, it is rooted in the theology of the incarnation.
