Summary

Against the backdrop of the advancing climate crisis, a new cooperative model is emerging: the climate cooperative. Using Cologne-based heuteStadtmorgen eG as an example, the author analyses the transformative potential of this new form of community organisation, examining whether and to what extent it can support the socio-ecological transformation of urban spaces. The author combines a sound theoretical classification with an empirical case study, situating climate cooperatives within the current discourse on sustainable urban development. In doing so, the study makes a valuable contribution to the evaluation of innovative organisational structures for addressing future social issues.
