Summary
Das ambitionierte Vorhaben dieses Bandes besteht darin, das Verständnis von sozialen Normen als Instrumente der Wertverwirklichung aus unterschiedlichen wissenschaftlichen Perspektiven zu erweitern und zu vertiefen. Werte sind für das Selbstverständnis von Individuen und Kollektiven konstitutiv. Die Identifikation mit grundlegenden Werten vermittelt sowohl dem Einzelnen als auch Gemeinschaften substantielle Ziele und verbindliche Orientierungen. In diesem Zusammenhang spielen soziale Normen eine zentrale Rolle: Sie sollen dazu motivieren, in Übereinstimmung mit Werten zu handeln und als wertvoll erachtete Ziele zu realisieren. Zu diesem Thema werden Theorien und Erkenntnisse der Philosophie, Ökonomik, Politikwissenschaft, Soziologie und Rechtswissenschaft in einem interdisziplinären Dialog diskutiert. Auf einer konzeptuellen Ebene erörtern die Beiträge das Verhältnis zwischen Moral und Konventionen, sozialen Normen, Sanktionen und Recht sowie die Beziehung zwischen Verhaltens- und Bewertungsnormen. Die Entstehung, Erhaltung und Evolution von Normen werden aus der empirischen Perspektive von experimentellen Studien, Rational Choice Ansätzen und Simulationsmodellen untersucht. Im Kontext von kollektiven Entscheidungen und gesellschaftlichem Wandel wird die Wechselwirkung zwischen individuellen und sozialen Werten thematisiert. Ein abschließender Beitrag setzt mit der Frage nach der Bedeutung sozialer Normen bei der Bewältigung schwerwiegenden Unrechts einen Kontrapunkt.
Der Band umfasst Beiträge und Kommentare, die auf der Konferenz "Normen und Werte" am Zentrum für interdisziplinäre Forschung (ZiF), Universität Bielefeld, vom 8. bis 10. Mai 2008 vorgestellt und diskutiert wurden.
