Summary

Mathias Müller is the first to take a closer look at the specific theatrical practices of simulation patients. Drawing on observed simulations, he demonstrates how these serve to train future physicians as semioticists. They encode illnesses and emotions through signs, which in turn must be correctly interpreted by physicians. Physicians ultimately have to act to a certain extent themselves in order to influence the patients in clinical interaction in accordance with the patient’s treatment goals. Dr. Dr. Mathias Müller is a theater scholar and physician and is currently working in the field of pain medicine.
