The enduring fascination with film lies not least in its ability to move viewers to have an empathetic reaction – in short, films evoke feelings. The collection considers various aspects of these effects and emotions. Alongside feature films, it also analyses the genre of documentary film, which until now has received little attention in this discussion. The contributions from philosophy and film studies call upon both analytical philosophy and current developments in aesthetic theory, allowing for an interweaving of the cognitive with the phenomonological.
