The discovery of the unconscious and the psychoanalytical term of (subconscious) acting have blown apart classic theories of action. Yet the term "agency", which has become the basic term of post-disciplinary social research, makes it possible that resistance and subjectivity can still be maintained despite this "death of the subject": It allows for the illumination of new aspects of doing and not doing, respectively acting, from the points of view of hermeneutics/pragmatism, group-analysis/ psychoanalysis and social studies. In this book, the authors suggest various agency concepts that establish the self socially situated between structures of power and control as well as creative and reflexive acting potentials.
