Summary

Various academic disciplines and art forms have been working with the concept and technique of the scene for a long time – the theater and film, psychoanalysis and sociology. But what lies behind this catch-all concept, and what is its function? How has the theater-oriented form of the scene linguistically and technically organized our imaginaries, perceptions, forms of entertainment, specialist terminology or artworks? How is this interplay between a concept, on the one hand, and technological media, or even an immaterial stream of consciousness and images on the other hand to be imagined? Heiko Christians narrates a history of the scene in which conceptual and material relations which are typically considered to be separate converge and intersect.
