Summary

Why should we devote ourselves to such a lonely and strenuous activity as writing, even though verbal communication is much quicker? Why should we take the information in a telegram seriously, even though the sender ignores basic rules of politeness? Why should we believe chemically fixed rays of light rather than a respectable personality? This book seeks answers to such questions by linking media history, media theory and sociology in a new way: it studies the seperating, connecting and synchronising characteristics of media. From there, it takes a look at the shifts in today's media tectonics.
