Summary
Investigating the use of language in pieces of visual art enables a sensual experience of its complexity. This study is therefore built like an exhibition: Based on over eighty paintings it scrutinises versatile constellations of language use and highlights its prototypical contingency. This unique and unusual approach to language enables exemplary insights which are substantiated by interdisciplinary aspects of linguistics, art history, and philosophy. This facilitates an independent and unique form of cognizance. This study invites the reader to participate in this exhibition by observing, reflecting, and comprehending actively the complexity of language use in visual art.
