Summary

Since the 1960s the relations between longtime residents and immigrants have changed fundamentally in Germany – as has the German society. By means of ethnographic analyses, Jörg Hüttermann traces this process of figuration back to daily interactions that only appear insignificant at first glance. By exposing the dynamics of interaction that are effective in various contexts and by exploring the pattern of change of figuration, this study based on urban sociology enables its readers to see daily life in the city with different eyes.
