Of the scientific world views of the 19th century, only Darwinism is still popular and expansive in the early 21st century. This volume shows: evolutionist patterns of interpretation – inspired by the spectacular success of genetics – have expanded into fields that previously seemed to be the exclusive domain of cultural and social scientists. Due to the growing interpretive power of evolutionism, thematic fields such as society, culture, morality, aesthetics, which used to represent the public identity of the humanities, are becoming subject to the biological pressure to adapt. This results in modern techniques of rule no longer addressing us as cultural collectives, but as biological individuals.
