Summary

[Church in Turbulent Times. Reports on the Situation in Church and Society (2009–2024)] Once a year, the church president demonstrates a »Bericht zur Lage in Kirche und Gesellschaft« to the synod. This is provided for in the EKHN church constitution. The report shows how the church is challenged by current events and how it responds to them in concrete terms. At the same time, it is a theologically based announcement of the times. Volker Jung was Church President of the EKHN for sixteen years and has also been a member of the EKD Council since 2015. Global financial crisis, sexualized violence, climate change, peace ethics, ecumenism, interreligious dialogue, migration and refugee reception, digitalization, coronavirus, the anniversary of the Reformation, membership development, and many other topics are addressed in the reports. They are documents of a very turbulent time, both ecclesiastically and politically. The volume contains introductory words by President Dr. Birgit Pfeiffer and retired President Dr. Ulrich Oelschläger.
