Compared to other human rights movements, the LGBT movement (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) has grown at unsurpassed speed in the past two decades. Phillip M. Ayoub traces the recent history of this transnational movement in Europe. He shows how "coming out" has put this marginalized part of society into the center of the political debate and helped them to claim rights long overdue. Besides the analysis of the standards represented by this movement, the book particularly focuses on the question why the legal recognition of LGBT minorities differs so much from state to state.
