`Do it yourself'? – DIY is a practice with shifting conjunctures and slogans. This volume attempts to provide a critical revision of the phenomenon, and as such, is at odds with the standard (marketable) texts, which often amount to nothing more than praise and instructions. In an empirical fashion, the authors here deal with the interplay between the discourses and practices of DIY. Central to this is the contextualization of the micro-logical findings with the macro-structural dimensions of these activities, from the most diverse individuals – the examples range from 3D-printing in Palestinian refugee camps to urban beekeeping in Germany, right up to bicycle building in Budapest.
