Summary

Since ancient Egypt, the kiosk has undergone many cultural and historical transformations. Architectural terminology still refers to a free-standing pavilion open on several sides, originally located in palace gardens, as a kiosk. From the 18th century onwards, it began to evolve from an exquisite building into a commonplace shop. It was not until the twentieth century that the kiosk finally evolved into the ordinary kiosk that we see all over the world today. But how will the kiosk develop in the future? Does the kiosk even have a future? Habilitated media scientist Arthur Engelbert answers these questions and presents a new perspective on the kiosk with the Tokyo Reading Kiosk.
