Sergej Seitz presents a comprehensive study of the relation between alterity and politics. Engaging with liberal, deliberative, and radical democratic theories, and building critically on the phenomenology of alterity (Levinas, Derrida), he redefines the fundamental concepts of political thought based on the motif of alterity. Given that the insight that political relations today can no longer be described on the basis of stable identities, the volume aims to develop a new reflective image of the political. Sergej Seitz leads the subproject 'Conceptualizing Democratic Imagination' as part of the ERC Advanced Grant 'Prefiguring Democratic Futures' at the Institute for Political Science at the University of Vienna.
