With the challenges of inter- and transdisciplinary thought, the old anthropocentric way of looking at animals has become obsolete. The contributions to this volume show: Animals are now also regarded as a place and product of human imagination and human knowledge. This turns the traditional animal lore into a political zoology, allows for the development of social schools of behavior and cleverness from ethology, and gives rise to poetries of phantasy and dance from the mechanics of animal movement and forms of singing from animal sounds. In the tensions between knowledge, technology, and culture, attention is also directed towards the crimes committed against animals in the name of instrumental rationality and economy.
