Summary
Richard Sennett has enriched contemporary social diagnoses for decades as a sociologist and public intellectual. With the book "The Open City" he has completed his Homo Faber trilogy, which mirrors a self-reflection of his work. The contributors, therefore, take a look back at his work and discuss its current relevance. They each address a central theme of his work character, the public sphere, culture, democracy, the city, labor, social work, writing, pragmatism, and ethics and thus provide an important reference work in the German-language reception of Sennett.
