‘The Law of Trust’ is a text on legal culture that challenges the conventional view of law. According to this view, rules primarily exist to punish or threaten people in order to force them to behave a certain way. This conviction is based on a negative perception of human nature, attributed to Machiavelli, that perpetuates a form of ‘legal Machiavellianism.’ However, this is a partial view that ignores the cooperative and responsible aspects of human nature, which form the basis of the legal system. The book is intended for a general audience, not just lawyers or those in legal training.
