The engrossing cultural studies analyses of space-related research topics which have taken place over the past two decades under the heading »Spatial Turn« remain deficient in terms of their conceptual and philosophical foundations. Although the philosophy for the development of this research provides an important impetus, it has yet to take a leading role itself. The aim of the volume is therefore to contribute to current spatial development through a clearer profiling of fundamental distinctions and concepts. »Place« will be involved opposite space, conceived as a philosophical object and appearing as a foundational principle of cultural studies, not (merely) as their theme.
