Summary

Looking ahead to the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris offers a welcome opportunity to take stock of current and historical structures and trends, phenomena and practices, relationships and transfers of sporting events in Germany and France for the first time in a long time. The STADION special volume aims to present a thematically and disciplinary broad and consistently transnationally oriented sports panorama for the long 20th century. “Sport | France | Germany” thus underlines the innovative power of a sports history that does not focus on victories, records and titles, but rather understands sport as an all-encompassing social phenomenon with a high cognitive value for political and social conditions through the ages.
