Summary
In light of the disparate conditions that refugees encounter on the way to, and inside of, Europe, the call for a coordinated asylum policy is growing increasingly loud. To this end, the European Union has been working for years on a `common European asylum system', which is intended to change the administrative practices on the ground. This volume presents the results of a research study which conducts a comparative analysis of the practical work in German and Swedish asylum agencies. The focus here is on the attempts of policy and administration to come to terms with the challenges of European asylum policy through measures of cross-border administrative cooperation.
